A translucent slighly milky cone
8-10 glaze. Song Dynasty glaze Potash Spar 70% Silica 20 CaC03 10 Lets color come through very nicely, at cone 10, but gives a nice cloudyness to the glaze at cone 9. When I dip a bowl in this glaze, rather than shake off the excess, I turn the bowl up and let it acummulate like candle wax running down a candle. |

Temple White G-200 Spar 35% Dolomite 19.70 CaCO3 2.60 EPK 22.7 Flint 20 I've used this glaze for many years, finding it very stable and consistant from cone 9-12. Firing in wood, I used it as a liner glaze. |

The gallery sprung from our
desire to quit road shows. Over the years it has proven to be the best thing we have done for ourselves. The number of professional studios have increased, so buyers and collectors have focused on this area for the quality and variety of work making the area a destination location for artisan crafts. |

My
first
wood kiln was a Will
Ruggles design, which featured an internal firebox. I have fired
with
it for some ten years with very fine flashing and wood ash
deposits.
It took me a number of years to understand and learn the character of
the kiln, but I am comfortible with the firings. For the last
couple
of years my wife would do most of the firing, with me adjusting the
firing cycle every now and again. This kiln's stack caved in during the beginning of a firing last fall, so I decided to tear down the kiln and salvage what I could and build another kiln, an anagama. I am looking at a design that has a lot more space than I have worked, but I feel that with the increased size I will be able to do larger pieces. I will be keeping a log of my progress. Check out My Blog. It will take me a bit to build it, but I am excited about the ideal. I'm also looking for information about Anagamas. Send me a link, email me or leave a comment at my Blog site. More to come....This page is still under construction. Thanks for your patience. |
