| “Cooking and art
can never be understood,
however
high your status and qualifications may be. That is how difficult they
are.
And yet nothing else in life is so important.”

VISITING THE AREA? CHECK OUT THIS SITE: POTTERS OF THE ROAN
Potters of the Roan is a professional membership of artisan
craftspeople that pool their resourses and talent to promote awareness
and education of the clay arts that surround the Roan
Mountain. If coming through Asheville, North Carolina, stop by ARIEL GALLERY, a contemporary craft cooperative located at 46 Haywood St., which is downtown near the Civic Center. Glazing Tip: If you are starting to produce lots of work and need a method to increase your speed of applying glaze to ware: This workes very well for liner glazing. Using 30 gallon trash cans for the glaze, I mounted a bilge hand pump on the wall above and to the left (I'm right handed) of the can, so I can pump with the left hand and hold the object with my right(stronger of my hands). Use PVC to route the glaze to the pump from the can and then out to the nozzle(that is positioned to exit the glaze upward, into the pot), letting the excess drop right back into the can. For large pieces I place two rods across the top of the can over the nozzle, then turn the pot upside down onto the rods, pushing a little harder on the pump handle, forcing the glaze to go higher. Also to help this, I size down the nozzle from 1" to 1/2 " diameter. Any boat supply company can supply the bilge hand pumps. |
